Sarel Cilliers High celebrates academic and sporting success
Sarel Cilliers High School has celebrated outstanding academic results, sporting triumphs and a wellness initiative at the start of Term 3.
Sarel Cilliers High School has started Term 3 on a high note, celebrating outstanding academic results, sporting achievements and learner wellness initiatives.
Top learners recognised
The school honoured its top academic achievers from Term 2, congratulating them on their dedication and hard work.
The top performers were Maseeha Ebrahim (Grade 8) with an average of 89.89%, Rylan Murugan (Grade 9) on 87.56%, Ruuvlin Soobramoney (Grade 10) on 86.71%, Meetay Parag (Grade 11) on 85.57% and Nhlakanipho Hadebe (Grade 12) with 86.43%.
The school said the learners’ commitment and perseverance set an example for others to follow.
Success on the sports field
Sarel Cilliers also enjoyed a successful run against Utrecht High School. The Under-15 boys won 2-0, the second team boys drew 0-0, the first team girls went down 2-0 and the first team boys secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
The school’s table tennis players also impressed in an interschool tournament against Talana Secondary School. Arav Bhagwandeen finished second in the boys’ division, while Aariya Massalia won the girls’ title and Kendra Hellerle placed third.
During the winter holidays, the first team boys’ soccer team successfully defended their title at the 2026 Kloof High National Football Tournament, claiming back-to-back championships against strong opposition.
Promoting health and wellbeing
The school’s yoga team joined around 2 000 participants at the International Yoga Day celebration held at North Beach, Durban, on June 21.
Hosted by the Sivananda World Peace Foundation, the event encouraged learners to explore the physical, mental and emotional benefits of yoga while promoting wellness, mindfulness and unity.
