Alfred Duma appoints new prepaid electricity service provider

The municipality announced that its cashiering offices will be open on October 1, 2 and 3 to help customers during the transition.

Alfred Duma Local Municipality has announced a new service provider for prepaid electricity, with changes coming into effect on October 1.

The municipality said it has appointed Vodacom Consortium, through the National Treasurer transversal contract RT29/2024, to manage prepaid electricity vending services.

The vending system will be managed by Ontec System PTY LTD, which forms part of the consortium.

Channels through which residents can buy electricity

According to Alfred Duma, from October 1, residents will be able to purchase prepaid electricity through several channels, including: the municipality’s cashiering offices at the Lister Clarence Building in Ladysmith and Colenso; FNB; Capitec; Nedbank; Absa; Standard Bank; major retail outlets; selected 24-hour service stations; and informal points of sale, including tuck shops and spaza shops.

Online purchasing

Residents will also be able to purchase electricity online through the Alfred Duma Utilities web application. First-time users can register on the web application from October 1 by providing a valid email address, mobile number and password that meets the required security criteria. An OTP will be sent to verify the registration.

The municipality said the Alfred Duma LM Utilities mobile application will also be introduced, but it will only be available from November 1 through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Existing users who have already registered through the web application will be able to use the same login details on the mobile application.

Reach out to the municipality for assistance

The municipality also announced that its cashiering offices will remain open until 21:00 on October 1 and 2, and until 15:00 on October 3, to assist customers during the transition.

Residents requiring assistance can contact the Ontec Service Desk on 0 21 928 1700 or email servicedesk@ontec.co.za. Alfred Duma Local Municipality’s Call Centre can also be reached on 036 637 2231.
