Mayor praises Estcourt matric class of 2023

Addressing the audience, Myeza applauded the municipality for being able to host this event under new municipal management for the third time. He then congratulated the top 10 students and schools for their hard work. “I am particularly proud of our learners who, against all odds, managed to obtain impressive results and who come from extremely difficult backgrounds. Your hard work and dedication have brought you here, to be celebrated,” said the mayor.

He also complimented the principals and teachers, saying that their dedication and hard work have ‘produced the results seen today’.

It was a great moment when Myeza ‘stepped down as mayor’ for a few minutes to allow matriculant Nontokozo Mlaba from Bhekathina High to take over his position. Mlaba outperformed other students and took first place in the matric results. Everyone clapped as the mayor dressed her in his mayoral gown and chain; her mother was in tears. She was then escorted to where the mayor was seated, as a sign of respect.

8. Chikuangani Nyasha – Estcourt High
9. Makhowane Nomfundo – Amahlubi S
10. Nyembe Luyanda – Estcourt High

All these students were awarded laptops, trophies and certificates.
