Vote with your head

AT THE beginning of 2014 I made myself a promise that I will always find something positive to see, read or listen to, and not to focus on all the negativity surrounding us. It is, however, becoming increasingly difficult to do so. Every day we are bombarded with bad news, and it seems that corruption is flourishing in all aspects of our lives. Now, more that ever, the politicians are making promises to the people, promises that had been made hundreds of times before, hoping to get the same people to vote for them. We constantly hear that progress has been made since way back when, but I cannot see what the masses see. All I can say is – people, take off your tinted glasses, take a step back and really look around you, and then ask yourself, are you proud of Vryheid, will you take your visitors and show them around town without being ashamed of all the filth, the potholes, the lack of services and the lack of leadership in our municipality? Are you satisfied living like this? I am angered and very ashamed of the leaders who were voted in to govern our town. We do not see them, we do not hear anything about them, and all they do is sit in their offices and we have to pay them for doing absolutely nothing to better our town. Shame on you! People of Vryheid, wake up and realise that if the politicians who you have voted for in the past haven’t realised your dream, after voting for them for many years, go to the polling station this year and vote with your head, and not your heart, and just maybe something might change in your life. [We don’t disagree, but perhaps we should add that the forthcoming election is not for local government, but for national and provincial representatives of the people. Editor.]
