Can somebody please answer this for me – who exactly gets the fortune from the contract of cleaning the sides of islands in Canna Avenue and Outspan Road?
Really, they are getting paid for nothing.
It has been a week again since they started and each time you drive by (no matter the time of day) the staff are just lazing around.
There is over 20 staff and you find at least five or six around one particular spot (some just standing).
It is so frustrating as the islands are still not cleaned up.
Surely, if you spread the staff and do proper supervision, those two streets can be cleaned up in less than a week.
But no, there is no sign of supervision or proper planning.
Someone is just collecting our rate monies and like the rest of service providers in this town, just doesn’t care.
Madam Municipal Manager, instead of your one-liners and tardy responses that smell of arrogance, please tell us why this is so. Also, why have you allowed our town to look like the dump it is today?
Are you really proud to be in a position to make change happen (but just don’ t care) and are you happy to with the way our town looks?
We are all equally responsible for cleaning our areas but the blame of the condition of road (potholes); long grass everywhere has to be laid on your doorstep.
Sick and Tired
We note your complaint about supervision of staff. We have other different programs funded by provincial and national government, which employ people to clean our streets as a way of poverty alleviation. We will monitor the activities of all people working outside.
There is a short-term plan to fix the potholes but the real problem is that the road infrastructure is ageing. The long-term plan is to rehabilitate the roads. The rehabilitation of the roads has started in Weenen, Wembezi and town.
In last year’s budget, R10 million was budgeted for the rehabilitation of roads and in the next year’s budget, council will approve additional funds so that the rehabilitation of roads will continue.
