We can live in love, peace and harmony

If only those people who try to spread hate would back off, I think South Africa could have a place for each and every one of us to prosper and be happy in this country

Editor – On Thursday morning, right before the Easter weekend was set to start, I parked in the San Marco parking lot on the Guinea Fowl Restaurant side to do some last-minute weekend shopping.

What I saw touched me in a profound way. A woman who was loading groceries into her car must have tripped and fallen flat on her back. She was clearly not one of those people who simply stop in the disabled parking bay just because it’s closer. She obviously had some sort of problem.

When the white lady fell, two African gentlemen (and I really mean gentlemen) rushed over to her aid.

They pulled her to her feet, and picked up her groceries and everything she had dropped when falling. One of the men stood by her while she loaded the rest of her groceries in the boot of her car. He left her when she got into her car.

With the political unrest in the country, it is heart-warming to see that most of us do want to live in peace and harmony with each other. To me, it was a scenario that would’ve made the late Nelson Mandela smile.

We are a rainbow nation! And if only those people who try to spread hate would back off, I think South Africa could have a place for each and every one of us to prosper and be happy in this country.
