Editor – Can someone please tell me why I should care who I vote for? Let’s be honest here, the ANC, Cope, IFP, MF and DA are all the same.
Vote-hungry leeches who suck us dry during elections and then are never seen again. I can honestly say I have no idea who is my ward councillor. My guess is that he is ANC, but I have never met him. He has never commented in the newspaper on problems we, as a community, face.
Because that is who I want as a ward councillor. I do not care about his colour or the party he stands for. All I want is for him to care about my ward. Not the ANC, Cope, IFP, MF or DA, but my ward! We both live in it, so when I complain about potholes, I want to hear him complain about potholes in council.
You see, he works for me because I voted for him – he does not work for any party. He represents me! I think councillors currently think they work for the municipality. They do not; they work for the voters. The people who gave them their jobs.
If they think we will be happy with a whole bunch of ghosts sitting in silence in council while the fat cats call the tune, then they must think again. I want to hear their voices and know their names! I want them to fight for me and my rights!
