Editor – What has happened to our town with the stupid parking meters everywhere?
I challenge anyone to tell me they actually pay to park in town? You see people pulling in and out of parking bays. You watch them go into shops and then leave, not once going near the parking bays to pay.
So I ask our town’s leaders: What exactly was gained by putting the meters up in the first place? Where are the guys in orange who were supposed to help out? I see the old car guards are still there. They are ever-ready to help you park and grab your change when you leave. They at least look after your car, but what exactly do the parking meters do other than sit there making a mockery of our traffic police and the abysmal parking situation in town?
Even the meters in front of the magistrate’s court appear to be totally ignored. It would be interesting to find out if they have issued a single parking ticket. How many millions of rands have been wasted on what appears to be a complete waste of resources? When it goes belly up, I am sure the municipality will have to foot the bill.
