Editor – As a young person, I am tired of living in Ladysmith. There are no fun recreational activities in this town.
Our parks are always busy, and that’s about it! There is no other place that we, the youth, can go and visit, especially over weekends. That is why so many youngsters do the wrong things, because they are so bored with their lives.
I know of a few churches that have youth meetings on a Friday night. But after that, what do we do?
On a Saturday night, I notice a few youngsters hanging out at Wimpy, blasting their loud music. They stay there till late with their friends and partners, but I really do feel that the councillors of Ladysmith, including our mayors, must put their heads together and think about the future of the youth in Ladysmith.
Other towns have gaming facilities and youth centres for the youngsters, but our town has nothing.
Our municipalities spend thousands of rands bringing different artists all the time for music festivals, but why don’t they save that money and open a youth centre where there is sport, games and most importantly a place where we youngsters can chill.
Well, this is just my suggestion. Hope there are other young people who feel the same way.
