A pat on the back to Daniel

When it comes to the plight of the rhino, many believe sharing a social media post or plastering a sticker on their bumper is enough.

Madam –

When it comes to the plight of the rhino, many believe sharing a social media post or plastering a sticker on their bumper is enough.

Content with their contribution, they scroll and share, without stopping to acknowledge the complexities of deep seated struggle.

Not Daniel.

The community was introduced to four-year-old Daniel Tinkler in the Newcastle Advertiser last week.

Taking matters into his own hands, the youngster added nearly 200 signatures to the Southern African Fight for the Rhino petition.

As adults, I feel we can learn from Daniel’s dedication and determination.

Instead of playing with toy cars or mucking about on the playground like a normal boy his age, he decided to change the face of volunteer work for the better.

If someone as young as Daniel can do more than expected, it makes me question whether my signature on the petition will suffice.

I encourage others to take a page from this pioneer’s book, and help make a viable difference in keeping the rhino species alive.

To Daniel: You have restored my faith in humanity.

My only hope is that you will read this when you’re old enough to fully comprehend what an invaluable impact you have made.

You’re a hero, and you don’t even know it yet!

Forever a Daniel fan
