Madam – In the spirit of Christmas and Ubuntu, I hope all my fellow residents will use this time to give back to the community.
It does not have to be money or even donations. Time is more valuable and priceless. There are many orphanages and old age homes where people and children have been left, and they could really do with some cheering up at this time.

Every year, my family and I make it a point to give of ourselves to those less fortunate. Those whose families leave them to fend for themselves, or put them away only to forget they exist.
The joy of giving back is something you will never forget.
Spend half an hour in the company of the elderly, and learn lessons that will stick with you for the rest of your life. Take the time to relive their worldly journey, to listen to their stories and delight in their experience. There is nothing more rewarding than spending time with people.
This Christmas, forget the presents and the materialistic notions of the holiday.
Instead, teach your children and your families the true meaning of humanity.
Teach them to love, instead of buying love.
Teach them patience and courage, instead of selfishness.
Teach them humility, instead of greed.
But most of all, teach them the true way to the light lies not in pretending, but in selflessly practising humanity.
