Crime is out of control in our town

Why do shopping malls have security if they are never there when anything happens?

Editor – Every day we are bombarded with statistics, be they numbers or words, related to crime.

The number of killed, the rands and cents stolen by corrupt government officials, business robberies, house robberies and car robberies (which are not to be confused with theft out of cars or hijacking)…

You need a science degree just to figure out what is what!

But that meant little to me until the other day when this chap tried to steal my ATM card. He was good, I will give him 10 out of 10 for effort, but luckily I read your recent article on ways people try to steal from you at ATMs.

So while he was trying to play silly buggers, I grabbed his arm and removed my card from his hand.

He was rather surprised that I knew he had it, and immediately made a run for it.

That brings me to my question. Why do shopping malls have security if they are never there when anything happens?

I mean, the area I was nearly robbed in is well-known for ATM scams, yet the security guards seem to catch nobody ever! They catch nobody and the robberies keep happening…

Well, there I go with the bloody statistics again: 1 plus 1 equals 2, so they must be involved?
