Editor – I refer to your last week’s front page article, dated June 23, ‘Killed for drug money’.
It was disturbing reading the article; having young men going to the extreme of killing an old woman merely to support a filthy habit of using drugs.
A pat on the back for the police officers involved in the arrest and the court finding the men guilty of the crimes they committed. However, the main problem that resulted in this horrific murder has not been solved. What are the police doing about the drug dealers in town?
Ladysmith is a small place and drug dealers can be easily identified, so why are the police not arresting them?
Our children’s lives are getting messed up because of these “scum bags”.
We live trapped in our own homes while our garden equipment is stolen from our property by people who have fallen victim to drug addiction.
In their mind, they don’t care what it takes to get the next ‘fix’, as long as they get it!
Does it have to take a murder or a police officer’s own child falling victim to drugs for them to actually act? Come on guys, it’s sad – a life was lost merely to score drugs! Don’t get me wrong, in a way I pity these men. There are plenty of other people in our society who are drug users.
We have to ask ourself the question: When will they snap and act in this barbaric manner by killing a person just for the sake of their next “hit”?
I think it’s time for the community to stand together and not look down upon others. It happened to these men, so it can happen to your child as well. We can only pray that our children don’t get easily manipulated. The first “hit” will always be provided, knowing you will do anything to be “high”.
