Asbestos roofing project questioned

The word going around is that the municipality is holding the vital project, because they have not processed the relevant documents to the Department of Human Settlements

It is with great concern that I write this letter regarding the issue of asbestos roofing. As far as my knowledge goes, the changing of the asbestos roofing in Forderville and Colita was approved by the MEC during the time of Councillor Ugan Chetty, who worked tirelessly to get the project going.

It was announced by the former Mayor of Umtshezi Municipality at the Forderville Hall during a community meeting a short while ahead of the Local Government Elections that the project was approved. However, to date nothing positive has come from neither the local municipality nor the ward councillor on the change of the roofing in the above mentioned areas.

Another thing it is very hard finding out who the implementing agent is that has been assigned to do the project. The word going around is that the municipality is holding the vital project, because they have not processed the relevant documents to the Department of Human Settlements.

This is sad to hear, and because of all the delays from our municipality the funding provided is going to be taken away. This project has now become a self-enrichment project for certain individuals who have distanced themselves from putting the community’s needs first. If the above project is lost due to municipal management and council purposely delaying the project, they must face the wrath of the community.

Considered Resident

The municipality is currently finalising the regulation of the appointment of the service provider. It will be finalised soon.
