Editor – I write in support of the letter by Mr Tim Rolston, in response to the article showing 70 dead yellowfish that you published.
I want to thank you for responding to the criticism from the angling community and for helping set the record straight by publishing the letter Tim wrote, a letter the vast majority of the recreational angling community would definitely identify with.
As an avid South African angler living abroad, it pains me to see the outdated attitude toward conservation and sustainability so many apparently still hold in my home country.
We have so far to go in educating all South Africans on the importance of this subject that every bit helps and therefore I am always grateful when editors assist in spreading the message.
I fully appreciate that the Ladysmith Gazette is not a fishing publication and as such, it is not your first concern to cater to the angling community, but I want to thank you and congratulate you for upholding a high standard of journalism and helping to not only keep the image of true recreational “catch & release” anglers clean, but also educating those who still hold onto primitive thinking with regards to our natural resources.
