Another year and another round of awards for the high school children…parents are made aware the day before when they return from work about the awards function.

Hats off to you the Principal and staff of Drakensberg Secondary School (DSS) for yet another year of an appalling and disorganised awards function.
Do you ever consider parents who are working and have to give notice to their employer regarding the function? Do you ever consider parents who have more than one child who’s taking awards and have to attend at two different times?
Which child is that parent going to please? An awards function was supposed to be a grand function to acknowledge the high flyers but when a parent attends the DSS function, they leave very disappointed because of the format of the function.

Teachers don’t even dress appropriately; instead they wear T-shirts and jeans with flip flops. You really need to learn from other local school awards functions were awardees are acknowledged with pride and glamour and each awardee walks out feeling proud that they have accomplished what they wanted and teachers are dressed so elegantly.
It’s said that this function is to motivate other learners but believe me it really doesn’t because all you hear are the loud screams of learners in our ears. Maybe some will get motivated but it leaves parents and learners disappointed as parents could not attend the function.
At least a day’s notice would be appreciated. Also to the Principal, it would be highly appreciated if you have the awards function on one day for all the awardees, maybe then all the awardees will attend.
This is not only the impression from me but but also from other parents who have attended your function.
Disappointed Parent of an Awardee
