Editor – For a small town like Ladysmith, it is scary to note how easily available drugs are in this town.
It saddens me to see how many young people are throwing away their lives by indulging in drug abuse.
I feel that our community does not have adequate resources to deal with this issue.
Drug abuse does not only affect the user, but us as a community as well.
We need to put a stop to this. We need to get together and encourage the youth to stay “clean”.
Having said all this leaves one question: Are drug dealers untouchable and can’t the police do anything to them because they are above the law?
The general public witness the drug trade happening daily in front of their eyes, yet our police fail to get rid of these ‘‘scum bags”.
My heart aches for these people who fall victim and become ‘drug users’. Young children aged 12 years, if not younger, are smoking dagga openly as if they are cool.
Very soon they will experiment and want to go to the next level and consume stronger drugs.
The older boys are seen totally ‘blown’ out of their minds.
I appeal to the men in blue: Let’s clean up this town before we end up as a haven for drugs.
