Every single day I see pedestrians who put their lives at risk by jaywalking. Motorists have to often drive onto oncoming traffic to avoid some pedestrians who think it is their right to walk abreast on the road.

On our very terrible roads in Estcourt, motorists are bound to drive into a pothole or road damage but we sometimes have no option as some pedestrians are very stubborn.

What can be done to educate those who walk on the road?

I am so disturbed when I see children, unaccompanied walking straight into traffic. Then again sometimes I see parents walking with them but allowing the children to stray onto oncoming traffic.

Their lives are at risk because we all know that some drivers are reckless and inconsiderate.

Do we have to see another pedestrian’s life lost before serious action can be taken against jaywalking?
