Editor – uThukela has let us down once again and has failed to supply us with the precious water we need.
This time it’s not due to a water shortage or burst pipe or even silt in the pumps, this time it’s due to uThukela failing to pay their workers due to issues relating to overtime and standby payments, yet we pay for our water.
So because the municipality can’t pay their own staff properly, the entire town has to suffer, yet we pay our water accounts.
Let it be that we don’t pay and they are very quick to come and cut our water supply.
How can the municipality allow the entire town to suffer for the reason that staff were not paid? What about the elderly and babies who have to suffer without water for an entire day?
Without warning, our water is just cut off. This interrupts our entire daily schedule and deprives us of one of our basic needs and rights.
Not only this, but what about the public areas and businesses who will be affected if this continues?
Something should be done quickly before things go downhill and the town is in a state of chaos.
This is a terrible sign about the state of our town and one can only wonder what else will happen. What more needs to happen for people to realise that our current state is not ideal at all?
A once glorious town is now in shambles, with no way out unless a change is made as soon as possible, and that falls on the shoulders of the community.
