[LETTER] Citizens need to step up to protect the environment

'The recycling collection points in my town never seems to be utilised.'

Madam – I take issue with the scourge of our planet, namely apathy.

Us citizens are constantly reminded that our planet is in dire need of human intervention in order to save it from dying, and all entities that rely on its continued healthy sustainability, from extinction!

Unfortunately nobody, be they us citizens, corporations, local authorities or governments seem to be taking this warning seriously.

Single use plastic bags are in abundance. Rubbish removal and disposal seems to be an ongoing problem.

The recycling collection points in my town never seems to be utilised. Is there an action plan anyway? I am certain there are citizens who will be happy to dedicate their own time for the general good, all is required is a rallying point.

Perhaps the Newcastle Advertiser, the acknowledged leader in instigating self-help projects in our town, consider taking the lead in this respect?
