[LETTER] Dark days are ahead so we should cherish good news

"Cheaper petrol and nowhere to go! There is an irony somewhere in this situation."

Madam – In these dark days, with the promise of more Covid-19 infected persons and an increase in deaths, any good news is to be grasped with both hands and relished.

Over the years, the petrol price in our country has escalated beyond all expectations, partly due to the excessive road and other taxes loaded on the the price by our financially strapped government.

The other factor being high oil demand worldwide, which means the oil producers can jack the competitive price per barrel. Since oil demand is so low now, the price has plummeted and we had a near two rand drop per litre last night.

Great! Cheaper petrol and nowhere to go! There is an irony somewhere in this situation. Beats me though.
