In the 20th year of the Swim Studio, swimmers between the ages of three to 48 years of age were invited to share in the accomplishments of dedicated learners.
A large majority of the swimmers attended the awards and thoroughly enjoyed showing off their skills in the steaming warm water of the indoor pool at the Swim Studio.
Of the new young swimmers, 85 went under water happily with complete breath control. Some 45 swimmers proved they were able to swim five metres unassisted, while 37 swam 10 metres with breathing and 27 more managed to complete 25 metres while exhaling into the water.
A further 36 swimmers passed the Swim Studio’s strict safety test to qualify to be Safe As A Tadpole. Of the more advanced swimmers, 17 earned their backstroke badges, and 13 mastered the complicated bilateral breathing to receive their freestyle (crawl) badges.
Christian Schütte, 11 years old and Aphile Ncgobo who is 10 years old, were awarded their breaststroke badges.
Seven young swimmers mastered the butterfly, which is considered the most strenuous of the four Olympic strokes. They are: Afika Nkosi and Lungelo Cebekhulu who are both nine years old, Chelize van der Westhuizen (8), Aspen Shaw (9), Arion Seegers (9), Bongelethu Maseko (12) and Duncan Radford (12). Duncan also received his breaststroke badge.
Congratulations to all these swimmers who will resume their lessons on Saturday, August 2. They will continue learning and working towards personal development and maybe towards the trophies to be awarded at the end of the year too.
