Golden oldies to battle it out in Paradise

This May, seven soccer teams from across KwaZulu-Natal will be descending on Newcastle to participate in the second leg of Golden Oldies Football League.

The league kicked off in Durban on March 14, and consists of teams where players are all over the age of 50.

Come May 9, Newcastle’s over 50s team will be defending their home ground from invading teams hailing from Chatsworth, Durban Central, KwaMashu, Phoenix, Pietermaritzburg, Tongaat and Umlazi.

There are nine games set for the day and the community is encouraged to show their support and cheer on the local oldies team at Paradise Sports Grounds.

Vincent Muthoo, one of the Newcastle players, said the league was an excellent way to promote soccer and keep older players fit.
