Exciting season in store for NFWAA

The Natal Freshwater Angling Association (NFWAA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dannhauser on June 13.

The Natal Freshwater Angling Association (NFWAA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dannhauser on June 13.

The clubs present were Dannhauser, Glencoe, Riverside, Chelmsford, Itec Free Spool and Docrats.

During the AGM, the office bearers for 2015/2016 were elected.

Liaquat Ahmed was elected as president, Clifford Robson as vice president, Shane Singh as secretary, Vernen Naicker as PRO, Saleem Abdool as treasurer as and Rakesh Bharat as record clerk.

The AGM also saw the introduction of positive changes for the season ahead.

The most exciting news is that each of the six leagues will offer a prize of R1000 for the winning team.

The overall winner of the league will also win a grand cash prize, together with a floating trophy, at the end of the season.

Although the NFWAA places more emphasis on team achievements there will be individual prizes for the heaviest scaled and non-scaled fish for each fixture.

This includes league and knock-out fixtures.

The league and knock-out winners will walk away with cash prizes and floating trophies.

The overall runners-up in the league and knock-out categories will also receive cash prizes for their efforts.

The overall winner of the league will be the team that accumulates the most points over the six leagues. In the event of a tie the actual points will be the deciding factor.

Due to the nature of the league system, teams will be allowed to fish in their zone of choice.

Clubs will be notified on the morning of the outing of the zones that will be used.

In previous seasons there used to be two registration periods, but this clause has been relaxed to allow clubs to register new members on a more regular basis.

A new competition has been introduced for the benefit of the individual angler who is a registered member of the NFWAA.

This competition will be the last fixture on the calendar of the NFWAA and will take on the look of an open competition where all the competition fees raised will be given as prizes to the winning anglers.

The format of the competition will be communicated to registered clubs in due course, and as mentioned, will be restricted to registered members of the NFWAA.

The new calendar will be made available to all affiliated clubs after the dates have been booked with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

The NFWAA views itself as an organ for promoting the sport of angling and thus encourages teams or individuals from other angling organizations to feel free to join the fold of the NFWAA and enjoy what promises to be another exciting season.

Teams or individuals wishing to join the NFWAA or need any information can contact Liaquat Ahmed on 082 938 5539 or Clifford Robson on 084 516 7396.
