Kilian Academy – Gough brings home bronze
The annual Hanami Gi-Challenge, held in Vryheid, has been influential in the development of BJJ in South Africa, with the Casca Grossa being another quality tournament adding to the fastest growing martial art in the world.
ON SATURDAY, September 19, Kilian Academy’s students, Charl Beukes and Justin Gough, participated at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Casca Grossa South African Open, held at Waterkloof Airforce Base, Pretoria.
Beukes placed fifth in the Adult 82kg Blue Belt division and Gough took bronze in the Adult 88kg White Belt division.
Abrie Kilian, head instructor at Kilian Academy, stated that both Beukes and Gough did exceptionally well.
“Gough, taking his first medal in competition and close to being advanced to Blue Belt, weighed in 8kg lighter in his division and showed that he is ready to be advanced to Blue Belt. Beukes, who also fought in a heavier weight division and only a Blue Belt for the past ten months, showed exceptional courage in a belt level that sees four years before being considered for a purple belt.” stated Kilian.
