Vryheid Cricket Club – Business League starts with a bang
This is a fun format of the game with each innings consisting of 15 overs. All players bowl and batsmen retire once making 20 runs. Extra bonus points are given for every girl in the team. THE cricket business league started off with a bang last Saturday with the first two matches being played at Cecil Emmett Park.
It was a perfect day for cricket with warm conditions, lots of fun and camaraderie.
The first match kicked off with Siyaxhasana Sixers and The Legends in a tightly contested match. The Legends batted first and scored a decent 145/5 in their 15 overs. Charl Crous took the batting honors scoring 21 not out. The best bowler for the Siyaxhasana Sixers was Jan-Harm Snyman taking 2 wickets for 19 runs in his 2 overs.
It was to be a tight match with The Legends defending their score well, but it was the Siyaxhasana Sixers who ended victorious passing the score with just 3 balls to spare and having lost 4 wickets along the way.
Their top run scorer, scoring 29 not out was Connor High. The Legends’ best bowler was Cornè Coetzee, conceding a miserly 8 runs in his two overs and claiming 1 wicket. Siyaxhasana Sixers won the match by 4 wickets.
The second match was contested between Build It and KZN Bodyworks. KZN Bodyworks batted first and scored a good 150/6 in the allotted 15 overs, with PJ Du Toit top scoring for his team with 39 not out. Andrè Ellis was Build It’s best bowler taking 2 for 19 in his 2 overs. KZN Bodyworks bowlers bowled well and dismissed Build It for 102 runs with Pine Breytenbacht claiming 2 wickets for just 11 runs in his 2 over spell. The best batsman for Build It was Neil Shand scoring 19 runs. KZN Bodyworks won by 48 runs.
The league will continue this Saturday at Cecil Emmett with the next four teams looking to start their campaign off with a win. Games start at 1pm and braai and tuck shop facilities are available.
