Newcastle JKA Karateka perform well at Nationals

The JKA South African National Championships were recently held at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg, and the Newcastle karateka team certainly did not disappoint with their performances.

Head Sensei, Johan Swart said approximately 3 800 karateka from across South Africa competed at this prestigious event, and being selected to represent your province was always an honour.

“Newcastle had 38 competitors representing KZN at the championships, of which 18 performed exceptionally well, with the Newcastle dojo winning a total of 21 medals.”

Competitors who participated in the Elite Division, and who made it to the top eight, will now go on to compete at the JKA Africa Cup Championships, which will be held in Johannesburg on September 1.

Mthunzi Mbatha

Moses Mazibuko.

“This is an accomplishment which does not come without hard work and dedication. Well done to these karateka on their wonderful achievements. We, at the Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal JKA Karate Association, are very proud of their fine performances.”
