WATCH: Local hockey coach is determined to succeed
"I can't wait to get back to the field and coach again!"
Dean Bond (39) is adamant about growing the sport of hockey in Newcastle. This is evident in his passion when he talks about his coaching at Ferrum High School and at the New Age Hockey Academy; a joint venture with friend and fellow hockey coach, Blessing Khumalo.
Bond said although there is not much sport happening in the country due to the lockdown regulations, he does however feel children can still do some practices at home.
“My purpose in hockey is to share the passion I have for the game and give something back to hockey and the Newcastle community. I want young players from our town making an Inlands team. We coach what the modern game requires.”

Bond is also excited about Ferrum’s new astro turf field that was recently done at the school, and said he could not wait to get the ball rolling again. He added he was also proud of the New Age Hockey Academy, as it keeps growing each year.
