Breakwaters Angling Club crowned Knock Out Champions
Breakwaters AC won the AA Coaches Knock Out with 76 points, defeating Dannhauser AC with 22 points.
It was dubbed as the ‘clash of the titans’ as both Breakwaters AC and Dannhauser AC were determined to earn the title of ‘AA Coaches Knock Out Champions’.
Breakwaters AC, who are out of the Mohamed Midas League, were determined to finish in first place. Their goal was to win the AA Coaches Knock Out trophy and thus qualify for the AA Coaches Grand Challenge.
The road to the finals was difficult, as they only qualified in fourth place for the KO Eliminator and then faced the in-form Challengers AC in the semi-finals, which they won 69 points to 63 points.
Dannhauser AC easily defeated a spirited Stillwaters AC outfit in the other leg of the semi-final, setting up an epic final between Breakwaters AC and Dannhauser AC. Because of the treacherous road conditions to Sandford, both clubs agreed to fish this competition in ‘unfished club waters’, beyond the Spectacle Spruit area.
It was a fun experience fishing in unfamiliar territory, bringing out the best in the anglers as they experimented with distances, baits, dips, temperament, and so on.
Under the scorching sun, both clubs attempted to out fish each other, but the weigh-in proved decisive. The Breakwaters contingent’s long queue of net gave an indication of the competition’s outcome.

Heinrich Swiegers of Breakwaters AC was crowned ‘Angler of the Day’, scoring a well-deserved 15 points and receiving the ‘blue cap’, R200, and an outright trophy.
Breakwaters AC have qualified for the Grand Challenge thanks to this victory.
The Mohamed Midas League is a two-horse race between Dannhauser AC and Challengers AC, with the winner of League 5 on 7 May almost certain to be crowned league champion, setting the stage for another epic battle.
This competition would also determine the title holders in the various categories.
