More than 100 golfers support Mascor Golf Day
Pierre Uys, promises that golfers can look forward to an even bigger and better event next year, having already started with the planning.
The Mascor Golf Day hosted at Newcastle Golf Club on Saturday, August 5, was well-supported with a staggering 112 golfers participating in this year’s event.
Organiser of the golf day, Pierre Uys, promises that golfers can look forward to an even bigger and better event next year, having already started with the planning.
Funds raised at Mascor’s Golf Day will be donated to the O’Safari’s, a non-profit organisation that provides support to pensioners who participate in golf tours.
Mascor is one of the South Africa’s leading suppliers in agricultural equipment, the largest supplier of agricultural equipment in KZN and the third biggest John Deere dealer in Africa. Golfers had an opportunity to marvel at the latest tractors and equipment on offer, which were on display at the golf day.
According to Uys, efforts are being made to get more local farmers to participate in next year’s event as well as to invite even more local businesses to take advantage of the opportunity to network and to advertise their products and services.
This year’s event was planned in about three weeks so a lot of effort went into ensuring that everything went well. We set ourselves a target of 100 participants and we were very pleased when we exceeded that target. On the day, we had six major businesses support us with watering holes on the tee boxes, three sheep on the spit and some great prizes,” said Uys.
“Among the participants who supported the golf day, we had some guys who are not golfers and other guys who are serious golfers. From the feedback I got, everybody had a lot of fun,” he added.
Uys said the highlight of the event, for him, is undoubtedly the great turnout.
“We all know it’s tough times out there but everybody still jumped in to support us and they all said that they would be here again next year,” remarked Uys.
Uys conveyed a special thanks to Mascor, John Deere and to Danny McClean and his team for their assistance.
The results of the Mascor sponsored golf day were as follows:
In first place were Dick Lemmer, Owen van Aarde, Eric Wright and JP van Rensburg (55 nett). Chris Khanyile, Shaun Pillay, Elred and Jenny Darvall scooped second place (55.17 nett), while third place went to Deepesh Karsan, Ronnel Singh, Pradeep Singh and Unis Karrim (55.67 nett).
In fourth place were Hannes Liebenberg, Alex, Donovan and Manual Coutinho (56.17 nett), and in fifth place were Gert Booysen, Wesley Louw, Marius Louw and Jan Viljoen (56.34 nett).
Golfers are invited to participate in the Newcastle Golf Club sponsored competition, which takes place this Saturday, August 12. For further details contact the Pro-shop on 034 318 3852.
