Park Run bids farewell to dedicated photographer

There was a slight tinge of melancholy at this Saturday’s Park Tun at the Rooipoint farm as Park runners bid goodbye to their trusted official photographer and volunteer, Keith Haskins.
Haskins who has been taking photos at the Park run since its inception in Newcastle took his last snaps at the Snips Bird Farm before setting off for new adventures.
“I have been taking photos every day for the past five years and feel it’s time to break the monotony of things,” he said.
A prolific photographer, Keith has captured the runner’s highs and sometimes struggles as they make their way through the gruelling 5km run. A lover of all things photography, he was always one to share tips and tricks on how to tell a story through the lens.
“With photos, you just need that one photo that tells a complete story with no words,” he said. As part of the Photo club that meets every Wednesday, Haskins says it is time to push him to get his creative juices flowing again.
His love of photography has spilt over and influenced the people around him, including one or two runners who took up the hobby after Haskins introduced it to them. One such Park runner, Rishi Nanan, shared how Keith played a bigger role in his life.
“When I first spoke to Keith about photography, his love and knowledge of the art rubbed off on me so much so that I picked it up as a hobby,” he said. As a part of the photo club as well Nanan stated that Haskins has been a mentor who is there with an ear whenever you needed to talk.
Park runners need not panic though, Keith (Haskins) will be back behind the lens snapping every sweat bead, step and every elated cross through the finish line.
