Bunny ears and big cheers at Parkrun

Held at the usual scenic route at Snips Bird Park in Rooipoint, the run welcomed a mix of familiar faces with many visitors.

This Saturday’s (April 19) Parkrun at Snips Bird Park in Rooipoint was the kind of morning that runners dream of with clear skies, a gentle breeze, and a vibrant sense of community in the air.

While many laced up their shoes to tackle the familiar scenic route, one familiar face experienced the event from a different perspective. Jo Claassen, a well-known regular at the weekly run, traded her running gear for a volunteer vest and a pink tutu.

With her trademark enthusiasm and a beaming smile, Jo brought a spark of energy to the morning, cheering runners on as they arrived and offering encouragement as they crossed the finish line.

“I’ve always appreciated the volunteers,” Jo shared, “but being on the other side really gives you a new perspective.”

This week’s Parkrun carried an extra festive flair with an Easter theme. Bunny ears were spotted throughout the crowd, adding a playful touch to the already cheerful atmosphere. Visitors joined from near and far, including one runner all the way from England.

Results of the run were as follows:

  1. Khan NOTHNAGEL- 21:48
  2. Xoli MADIDA- 23:45
  3. Pierre JANSE VAN VUUREN- 24:26
  4. Mandlenkosi MFUPHI- 25:21
  5. Aloïse BOSHOFF- 25:59

  8. Deena GOVENDER- 28:27
  9. Wilco WILKENS- 29:47
  10. Mardy CONRADIE- 29:56.
This week’s volunteers Tom Singh, Jo Claassen, Nashreen Nanan, Gwyneth Root, Neha Nanan, Rishi Nanan and Patricia Biljon.
