Thursday nights at Newcastle Bowling Club are once again alive with activity as the popular MMG Toyota Spring Business League gets under way.
Thirty-four teams took to the greens for the first two rounds. With a mix of new and experienced bowlers, much fun was had by all.
Another two rounds will be played this week before the teams are divided into three sections.
At the conclusion of the competition, each section will have a winner and runner-up, giving more teams the opportunity to finish in the prizes.
Huge congratulations and appreciation go to our sponsors.
KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls Presidents Tournament winners:
The annual KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls Presidents Tournament was held in Mtunzini last weekend.
District sides selected for the 2026 Quadrangular and Inter-Districts tournaments faced each other in practice matches ahead of the coming season.
Both the ladies’ and men’s sections followed a similar path, with the final results identical: the Open A sides finished top of their respective logs, Veterans teams came second, Open B teams third, and Presidents teams fourth.
While the Presidents teams did not place, the experience gained will be invaluable. The KZNCB Pairs Play-Offs were also held at Mtunzini.
The ladies’ title was won by Eunice Duvenage and Anita Scott (Richards Bay 10 + 41), with Charmaine van der Merwe and Heather Fathers (Ladysmith CC 9 + 35) in second place.
The men’s title went to Theuns Fraser and Jimmy Nel (The Nest BC 15 + 38), while Chalkie Kelleway and Steve Oberhozer (Empangeni 9 – 5) took second place.
Upcoming Tournament:
This Saturday all three of the club’s greens will be filled with players participating in the annual Kings Day competition.
