On the local front, the monthly FedAuto meat competition was won by Simon Ball, Johan Coetzee and Gert Roos, with the runners-up Billy Nicholas, Graeme Robinson and Edith Pretorius.

The ever popular Kings Day, hosted by Newcastle Bowling Club, once again attracted a full entry of 36 teams from all over the district.

With prizes going to all the participants, no one left empty handed and a most enjoyable day was had by all – special thanks to the Willemse family.

In a hotly contested event, the eventual winners were Henry Klofta, Jackie Stroebel and Cornel van Wyk (Vryheid), followed by Greg Connolly, Des Jonhston and team (Dundee) in second place.

The Herrington family (Piet Retief) was in third place.

Dundee Bowling Club hosted its 71st Friedman Cup last weekend, which also attracted teams from Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Umhlali, the Free State and the KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls (KZNCB) district.
