Congratulations to Newcastle cyclists, Vivek Sewpaul, Muhammed Naeem Osman and Jameel Butler, who participated in the 2025 Ride Joburg on October. 26

Their times were as follows:

  • Vivek Sewpaul (97 km): 3h38m
  • Muhammed Naeem Osman (97 km): 4h2m
  • Jameel Butler (97 km): 4h43
  • Ash – Senior Rider (35 km): 1h33m

“Participating in Ride Joburg has been a dream of ours since we started cycling. This year, we took the challenge head-on, pushing our limits and exceeding expectations,” said Muhammed Naeem Osman.

He added that the scorching heat, exhaustion and steep hills tested their mental and physical strength, but the sense of accomplishment made every drop of sweat worthwhile.

The route kicked off at the FNB Stadium, taking riders onto the M1 North towards Woodmead. The highlight of the race, according to Osman, was a thrilling lap around the world-renowned Kyalami F1 track.

“As we hit the 65 km mark, the terrain became intense with a series of challenging hill climbs through Bryanston and Randburg. We pushed through to Hyde Park, tackling more demanding inclines before reaching the iconic Nelson Mandela Bridge.”

From there, it was a flat ride down the M1 South to the finish line. The total elevation over the 97.4 km route was 1 336 m.

“Cycling alongside fellow enthusiasts from across the country was exhilarating. The shared passion and camaraderie kept us motivated to the end. Crossing the finish line and collecting our medals was an emotional moment and a testament to our hard work and dedication,” said Osman.

He thanked their families, friends, Newcastle Rollers Cycling Club, and the Newcastle community for their unwavering support.

“Your encouragement before, during and after the event meant everything to us. We are already training for next year’s event, aiming to improve and inspire others to chase their dreams. With determination and perseverance, nothing is impossible,” he concluded.
