After winning the title fight on points, Sthembiso Maduna is now aiming for national success.

Rising boxing star Sthembiso Maduna from Steadville has set his sights on the national stage after clinching the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) featherweight title on Saturday night (February 28).

Maduna, who trains under the guidance of Moruti Mthalane at Mthalane Boxing Gym, delivered an impressive performance in a thrilling 10-round contest held in Durban at the APN Portuguese Hall. The event was made possible by JV MKS Promotion, together with the Department of Sport, Arts & Culture.

Hard-fought victory in Durban

Facing a determined Tholumusa Ngema from Empangeni, Maduna went the full 10 rounds in a tightly contested bout. After an intense battle, the judges awarded Maduna the victory on points, securing him the prestigious KZN featherweight championship.

Speaking to the Ladysmith Gazette, Maduna expressed his excitement following the win.

“I am very happy about being a champion because now I am expecting a lot of opportunities, especially at national level,” he said.

Eyes on the national stage

Maduna entered the fight with solid experience, having competed in 19 professional bouts, winning 13 and losing six. His latest triumph marks a significant milestone in his career and positions him as one of the province’s most promising boxing talents.

With the provincial title now under his belt, Maduna is confident that greater opportunities will follow – particularly on the national stage.

Congratulations to Sthembiso Maduna on his remarkable achievement and best wishes as he pursues further success in South African boxing. 🥊
