Ladysmith-born sprint sensation Zakithi Nene has been nominated for ‘Sport Personality of the Year’ at the KZN Sport Awards, marking another milestone in his rapidly rising athletics career.

Impressive performance in Nairobi

Nene has impressed on the international stage, competing strongly in 400m events and relay races, where he has played a key role for Team South Africa against top global competition. At the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, he delivered a sensational 400m performance, clocking an impressive 43.76 seconds.

Representing SA on international stage

He first rose to prominence with stand-out runs at national championships and as part of South Africa’s relay squads, earning recognition for his speed and composure under pressure. His contributions and strong participation in the 4x400m relay were particularly notable in May 2025 when Team South Africa competed at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, securing podium finishes against world-class opposition.
