Aveen Jagath and Neeresh Gopie, of the Malonjeni Dart Club from Dundee, have been selected to represent KZN in the South African Dart Championships to be held in Cape Town later this month.
They both excelled in the recent Natal Championships held in Tongaat on May 31. The competition was extremely tough but the rampant duo from Dundee knocked aside all opponents in the preliminary rounds, including opponents from Durban, Pietermaritzburg, North Coast and Tongaat. The competition heated up in the quarter finals and semi-finals, with the Dundee duo matched up against the Midlands number one and two, Roshan and Dhivek, and the number one and two from Tongaat, Veera and Nishkar, in the respective rounds. The boys from Dundee won 2-0 (3) in the quarters and 3-0 (5) in the semis. They went on to the final, and the local lads had a daunting task in overcoming the number one and two from the South Coast, Paul and Gerard. Neeresh and Aveen were in sublime form, taking the finals 4-0 (7). With Neeresh closing on 170, between the duo an incredible seven 180s were thrown.
The team selected to represent KZN in the South African National Dart Championships is as follows: Aveen Jagath, Neeresh Gopie, Ramesh Ramdhayal, John Ince, Jason Joseph, Jayen Jagath, Oscar Paul, Ronnie Ince and manager, Shane Singh.
