Father and son golfing duo win sponsored competition
The bowls championship matches moved closer to the finals over the past weekend, with a number of pairs matches being finalised
Saturday afternoon’s golf competition was sponsored by Trevor Jacobs and Leon Petersen, and although the wind started to gust after midday, the scores for this competition were more than respectable.
The father and son combination of Stephen and Eythan van Tonder made it to the winner’s podium with a score of 46 points, followed by Leon Petersen and Enrico Bozza with 43 points. ‘Nearest the Pin’ winners were Dave Salmond, Charles Porrill and Gerhard van der Westhuizen, while ‘Wessie’ also won the prize for being nearest for two at the 15th. Thanks to Trevor and Leon for stepping in to provide the sponsorship for this golf competition.

On Friday afternoon, Robin Halton and Pier Turconi played against Geoff Lee and Sergio Cerrai in a very closely contested encounter, with shots being drawn and drawn-off on a regular basis throughout the match. In the end, it was Robin and Pier who managed to pull off a 15-11 win.
On Saturday morning, Ettienne de Pindray played a singles match against Craig Booth. Craig got off to a great start and at one stage led by 12-3, but Ettienne worked hard to cut the deficit to 12-16 after the 18th end, only to give away a crucial ‘4’ and then the final point to give Craig a 21-12 win.
On Saturday afternoon, Robin Halton and Liz Mackintosh played against Cheryl Mostert and Cor Kleynhans, with Cheryl and Cor scoring a good win of 25-9. Another Saturday afternoon match was the men’s pairs encounter between Geoff Lee and Sergio Cerrai taking on Gavin Livingston and Craig Booth. The end result was Geoff and Sergio scoring a 20-10 win.
On Sunday morning, Sergio and Ann Cerrai played Kurt Swoboda and Veronika Schuler in yet another close match. Peels at 9-9 after 10 ends, Sergio and Ann seemed to shift gear and move ahead to 12-9 after 13 ends. But Kurt and Veronika were not giving up yet and with the score at 12-11 to the Cerrais, heading to the last end, it was anyone’s match to win.
The shot changed a few times on the last end, but it was Sergio who had the last say by scoring two points to win the match 14-11. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all for the commitment in the push to complete the championships.

The Friday evening ‘100 Club’ draw was won by Russell Goosen, who, for the first time in a long time, was not at the club. This means he has left a small carry-over for this week’s draw of two grand.
