Elusive fish mark APL start

Team Streetwire (29 pts) were the victors, followed by the Paper House (24 points); NFH Superstars (14 pts) and the Fishing People (6 pts).

The Angling Professional League (APL) got under way on October 19 at Sandford.

The four teams, Team Streetwire, Paper House, NFH Superstars and the Fishing People squared up against each other with the view to chalking up their first win under the auspices of the Vees Micro Enterprises League.

The fish were rather elusive and this could be determined by the shortage of keep nets presented at the weigh-in.

Team Streetwire (29 pts) were the victors, followed by the Paper House (24 points); NFH Superstars (14 pts) and the Fishing People (6 pts).

The top three anglers were Monty Slabbert on nine points, followed by newcomer, Minesh Gopie on seven points and senior angler, Whity Maharaj on six points.

The heaviest barbel was caught by Whity Maharaj which weighed 3,185kg.

Top angler of the day, Monty Slabbert was awarded the “orange” cap and an outright trophy, while Kaveer Singh, the current log leader was awarded the “purple” cap.

The Internal Knock-Out Singles and Doubles competition got under way with many of the favourites exiting the competition very early. The tussle for the top three places on the log, Kaveer Singh (11 pts); Terence Chetty (10 points) followed by Monty Slabbert and Whity Maharaj (9 points) makes for an exciting season as the rest of the pack chase the coveted title of “Angler of Year”.

The Vees Micro Enterprises League is headed by Team Streetwire (eight pts); followed by Paper House (six pts); NFH Superstars (four points) and Fishing People (two points).

Membership to the APL is ongoing, and membership forms may be collected from Midas Spares (Mr. Omar); the Fishing People (Shabir) or contact Kidd Rampersadh on 084 6008 333; Terence Chetty on 072 786 0866 or Monty Slabbert on 082 391 6324 for more information.

The Breakwaters Angling Club’s awards function will take place on November 8 at Status Hall and promises to be a social event not to be missed. One of Durban’s leading bands, the Caribbean, will be rendering entertainment on the night, and the winners of awards in the various categories will be honoured during the course of the evening.

The next competition will be the first round knock-out on November 16 at Richgate Park where Paper House will take on Team Streetwire whilst NFH Superstars will battle The Fishing People.
