Vryheid Cricket Club – Impressive score for Mr X

THE past weekend saw two cricket games played at Cecil Emmett Park.

On Saturday, Mr X played the Gladiators in a Kingsmead Mynahs Cup league game. Mr X batted first and we were treated to a superb 258 run first wicket partnership between Marco Vosloo (79) and a fantastic 172 from 98 balls from Miguel Machado! Mr X ended on a huge 288/4 in their allotted 30 overs. The only wicket takers for the Gladiators were Andrew Vorster (2-0-16-2) and Wikus Janse van Rensburg (6-0-59-1).

The Gladiators were never in the game, losing wickets on a regular basis, but did manage to bat their 30 overs out. Mohammed Ashgar (55) and Adnan (22 not out) top scored in the Gladiators’ total of 147/9. Best bowling came from Hein (4-0-21-2) and Miguel Machado (6-2-22-2). Mr X won by 141 runs.

On Sunday, the Gladiators played the Scorpions. The Scorpions batted first and were all out in the 40th over, scoring 237 runs thanks to Freedom Buthelezi (38) and Nathi Zwane (33) . The best bowlers for the Gladiators were Sohel Patel (8-0-34-5) and Marnu Janse van Rensburg (7-0-42-3).

In attempting to chase down the target the Gladiators were all dismissed for a meager 76 in the 20th over. Scoring the most runs were Wikus Janse van Rensburg (19) and Jarred Foster (11). Top bowling for the Scorpions came from Joshua Stride (5-1-11-4) and Freedom Buthelezi (4-1-11-2). The scorpions won by 162 runs.
