Quadrangular tourney set to rock town

“We want to encourage the community of Newcastle to come and watch hockey being played at this level and to support our local Northern Natal sides,”

Less than a month remains before the Newcastle Hockey Club hosts the Natal Country Districts Tournament on home turf.

The tournament is an annual hockey event played between Northern Natal, Midlands and Zululand, with different towns from the districts hosting it every year.

In the past, when Northern Natal had been selected to host the tournament, it would forfeit the opportunity to a town that has its own AstroTurf.

This year Newcastle has taken it upen itself to host an excellent tournament on the grass facilities available locally.

The tournament is scheduled for May 8 and 9 at Ferrum High School with games starting at 9am daily.

“We want to encourage the community of Newcastle to come and watch hockey being played at this level and to support our local Northern Natal sides,” said committee member, Candice Bond.

Food will be on sale at the event, and there will be entertainment as well.

Team Osaka Hockey SA will be providing entertainment at the fields on both days, and there will be an inflatable Osaka field for children to enjoy.

“We would like to thank Ferrum High School for the use of their fields over this weekend, as well as Majuba Lodge for accommodating all the teams. The sponsors who are involved, without you we would not be able to host this tournament and make it a success. Thank you,” said Mrs Bond.
