NFWAA sets the pace
The Natal Freshwater Angling Association (NFWAA) held its annual general meeting (AGM) in Dannhauser June 13.

The Natal Freshwater Angling Association (NFWAA) held its annual general meeting (AGM) in Dannhauser June 13.
Fishing clubs, Dannhauser, Glencoe, Riverside, Chelmsford, Itec Free Spool and Docrats were all present for the important annual event.
The office bearers for 2015/2016 were elected as follows: President Liyaqat Ahmed, Vice President Clifford Robson, Secretary Shane Singh, Public Relations Officer Vikash Naicker, Treasurer S Abdool and Records Clerk Ranesh Bharat.
Many new ideas were proposed to ensure positive changes influence the next angling season.
A key new change implemented, is the R1 000 prize money up for grabs for the winner of each of the season’s six fishing leagues.
This was introduced to keep clubs vying for top honours until the last fixture.
The overall winner of the league will also win a grand cash prize together with a floating trophy at the end of the season.
The NFWAA places more emphasis on team achievements, but there will also be individual prizes for the heaviest scaled and non-scaled fish for each fixture, including the league and knock-out.
The league and knock-out winners will also receive cash prizes and floating trophies.
The overall runners-up in the league and knock-out categories will also receive cash prizes for their efforts.
“The overall winner of the league will be the team that accumulates the most points over the six leagues. In the event of a tie the actual points will be the deciding factor,” said Mr Robson.
He explained due to the nature of the league system, teams will be allowed to fish in their zone of choice.
Clubs will be notified on the morning of the outing regarding the zones that will be used.
This is contrary to previous seasons when there were two registration periods only. This amendment to the clause allows clubs to register new members more often.
“A new competition has been introduced for the benefit of the individual angler who is also a registered member of the NFWAA.”
This competition will be the last fixture on the calendar of the NFWAA and all the monies raised will be given as prizes to the winning anglers.
The format of the competition will be communicated to registered clubs in due course and as mentioned, will be restricted to registered members of NFWAA.
Two of the registered clubs will also be hosting open competitions during this season. The general public and social anglers look forward to these competitions and they are normally well supported.
The new calendar will be made available to all affiliated clubs after the dates have been booked and finalised with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.
“The NFWAA views itself as an organ for promoting the sport of angling and thus encourages teams or individuals from other angling organisations to feel free to join the fold of the NFWAA and enjoy what promises to be another exciting season.”
The registration deadline date is June 27.
