Monty Steele elected for another term

Newcastle Bowling Club hosted its annual prize giving last Friday evening.

President, Monty Steele expressed his thanks to the sponsors of the various competitions, before presenting the prizes.

The 2014/2015 prize winners are:

Ladies’ and men’s Fours, sponsored by Andy and Dot Crosbie

Ladies winners: Dorothy Crosbie, Sue Hutchinson, Trix Baasden and Lindsay McArthur.

Runners-up: Alice Howe, Phyllis Reis, Esther Willemse and Carien Coetzee.

Men’s winners: Andy Crosbie, Trevor Hutchinson, Colin Broderick and Alex Zaal.

Runners up: Frans Schoon, Simon Ball, Graeme Massey and Martin Baasden.

The most improved bowlers of the year were Edith Pretorius and Martin Baasden respectively.

Bert Rodgers received the President’s Award, for his contribution to the club over many years.

The club’s AGM was held on Saturday afternoon, with a good turnout of members in attendance despite the wintry conditions.

A number of Newcastle bowlers will be participating in the KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls trials this weekend, taking place at Vryheid Bowling Club – all are wished good bowling.
