Golfers rally for a cause

Golfers did their driving at the Put Foot Rally fundraiser on Saturday

It is fitting golfers did their driving at the Put Foot Rally fundraiser on Saturday.

After all, teams Not Dead Yet 1 and 2 will get 10 000 kilometres under their wheels in June, when the epic cross-country journey sets off.

Six Newcastillians, two former residents and two vehicles will make the journey.

They are Gail and Tim Stroebel, Norbert Kade, Marietjie van Waardenberg, Paddy and Debbie Smuts, Dave Macallister and Helen Truter.

The golf day, hosted at the Kilbarchan Golf Club, raised funds for their cause.

“The aim of the trip is to collect donations to enable the two teams to purchase school shoes, stationery and soccer balls, which will be handed over to local children at designated points throughout the trip,” explained Mr Stroebel previously.

The teams thanked all golfers who participated in the golf day, and continue their efforts to brighten the lives of children who truly need help.

Shane Davis and Nicole van Wyk ended the overall winners.

Second and third place went to the pairings of Sakkie van der Merwe and Jacques Jorden, Cassim Shaikjee and Mohammed Moola respectively.
