In the pursuit of becoming the best wrestler possible, 60 wrestlers gathered at Ferrum High School on Saturday to compete in a wrestling tournament.
Newcastle Cougar’s Wrestling Club hosted the event, where wrestlers from Richards Bay, Volksrust, Dundee and Newcastle competed.
The purpose of the tournament was for competitors to build up points to compete in the South African Championships.
“Wrestlers work on a point system to go to the SA championships,” said JP Horn, chairman of the wrestling committee.
Each wrestler competed in four rounds. The hosting club dominated the event, as most of the wrestlers were from this club, building up a substantial amount of points.
As the first wrestling tournament of the year, it was enjoyed by the wrestlers as it offered them the opportunity to hone their skills.
