Father and son duo warm up for BMX World Championships in Colombia

BMX veteran and his son, 16-year-old DHS scholar, Justin Dekker, representing SA at World Champs

Father and son duo, Grant and Justin Dekker, are in Colombia, South America, preparing for the BMX World Championships to start at the end of the week.
On Monday, they completed their first practice rounds on the world championship track with the rest of the SA team.
“The first practice done track is long and at altitude so we are breathing heavy. Justin has already got track dialled – I have all dialled except for the second jump but I will jump it this morning. I am feeling confident for both of us. The shoulder is  not a problem when strapped. I was first senior rider from SA on the track and completed the last lap with Justin which was so very special.”
Grant said they arrived in Colombia after over 30 hours of travelling.
“The city, Medellin,  is clean but very busy. Ha, ha our small town view. People are friendly just the language (Spanis) is a problem. Thanks to everyone in Dundee for the support means a lot.”  Watch the Courier for updates.
