Northerns hockey teams play to win

On May 12, 15 players set off to Pietermaritzbur for the battle at the Natal Country Districts with their coach Dean Bond and manager Candice Bond.
The girls were all set to go head to head against the Zulus A and B and Midlands A and B.
The girls were amped and ready to go on Friday playing Midlands B and winning 5-0. Next was Zulus B winning 7-1. On Saturday they took on the A side teams and the competition started, taking on Zulus A and coming out victorious 4-0.
Then the toughest game of the tournament the mighty Midlands A side. The girls put everything on the line and really played with big hearts. Unfortunately Midlands came out winners beating them 3-0. The ladies will be competing at the South African Country Districts (SACDs) in Benoni from July 2 -9. In aid of raising funds there will be a Northern Natal Ladies Golf tournament on May 28 at the Dundee Country Club. Northern Natal Mens
The Northerns Men’s A and B hockey teams dominated the Natal Country Districts after playing four matches each, both the Northerns men’s teams emerged victorious. The Men’s A played Zululand B thrashing them 10-0.
The most anticipated match against their rivals, Inland A ended in a 1-1 draw. On May 14 they played their first game against Inland B winning 7-0 and ended the tournament with a 2-0 win against Zululand A. Even though it came down to a goal difference, the men’s A team were the champions of the tournament. The following players were chosen to play at the Interprovincial hockey Tournament (IPT): A-side: Cameron Fogg, Vern van Staden, Chris Rosewall and Blessing Khumalo. B-side: Shameel Ayob, Devon Cherry, Kyle Kelbrick (Vice Captain) and Anthony Rebeiro. The IPTs will take place in Cape Town from July 9 – 16.
