Biggarsberg athletes get a rousing welcome in Soweto

Athletes were thrilled to enter the huge FNB Stadium where they crossed the finish line.

Known as the People’s Marathon, the athletes were cheered on along the route enthusiastically by Sowetans who made them feel welcome despite it being a very hot day.

21km: Melanie Guelpa: 02:51; Lidia de Waal: 03:14 and Debbie Eloff :03:22.
42km: Sanele Nxumalo: 03:29 (Qualified for Comrades); Fanie Mthembu: 04:18 (Qualified for Comrades); Pat Sibisi: 04:36 (Qualified for Comrades);
Lindelihle Khuzwayo: 05:05; Jean Nxumalo: 05:27; Mzwandile Nxumalo 05:36 and Siphamandla Nkosi: 06:52.
Siya Ngobese competed at the Kaapsehoop 3 in 1 in Nelspruit on Saturday, November 4, and finished his 42km in 05:00:44 and just missed a Comrades qualifying time by 44 seconds! He had a good race but it was a real challenge as it was mostly downhill (a good practice for Comrades 2018 that will be the down run).
