It was a special morning for the Van Zyl family, with mother and daughter Liané and Jeanie van Zyl taking first and second place among the female finishers. Liané claimed the top spot.

Two new personal bests

Several regular Vryheid parkrun participants were away this weekend taking part in the Michaelis Challenge, but the event still saw two new personal best times.

Nine first-timers join parkrun

The parkrun also welcomed nine first-timers, with organisers wishing them well as they begin their parkrun journeys.

More than just running or walking, parkrun continues to bring the local community together on Saturday mornings.

It is an opportunity to meet like-minded people, enjoy some exercise, encourage one another and build friendships, all part of what keeps participants coming back week after week.

Volunteers and participants reach milestones

This weekend, the spotlight also fell on some of the participants and volunteers who have contributed significantly to the Vryheid parkrun community.

Amanda was recognised as the event’s champion volunteer, with an impressive 350 volunteer credits.

Daan has the highest participation tally among male participants, with 319 events, while Thembi leads the female participants with 169 events.

Their commitment, along with that of the many volunteers and participants who make the event possible each week, continues to be an important part of the Vryheid parkrun community.
